About The Soapery

The Soapery is a company based on the ethos of pure and natural, using ethically sourced ingredients that are kind to animals, the environment and are biodegradable. Our soaps are PALM OIL FREE!

Each soap is lovingly handmade in small batches in Cape Town using skin-loving plant oils and butters that nourish and protect our skin barrier function. We only use natural spring water from our very own Table Mountain.
We use beneficial additives such as oats, clays, salts, herbs, botanical extracts, natural exfoliants, plant milks, and vegetable juices. Our soaps are fragranced with 100% pure essential oils, and the colours are naturally derived from clays, herbs, flowers, plants, and vegetables. We play with different combinations so that each soap has unique benefits and properties to suit your skin type. Our soaps have a rich creamy lather which is cleansing but gentle and leaves your skin feeling moisturised.

My Story

It all began at the school Cake & Candy fair back in 1972. There was a make-up stall and all the little girls lined up to have their faces adorned and painted for 10 cents. I thought what a great idea to “borrow” my mom’s make-up and charge 5 cents to do the same job and maybe even a little better. What a bargain! Needless to say, when I returned home with a bag full of 5 cent coins and a depleted make-up set, the ‘proud of myself’ moment was short-lived.

My passion for cosmetics grew from then and continued throughout my career, evolving into the study and pursuit of using natural ingredients that are beneficial to the barrier function of the skin and are kinder to the environment. My qualifications include: Institute of Personal Care Science: Diploma of Personal Care formulation; Formula Botanica: Diploma in Organic Skincare Formulation; Somatology; Therapeutic Aromatherapy, and a great love of plants for their medicinal and healing properties. I have used all the knowledge I have gathered over a span of 35 years to create THE SOAPERY.
